Abstract
Analisa os ciclos de integração regional na América do Sul, destacando quatro períodos distintos: o nacional-desenvolvimentista, o regionalismo aberto, o social-desenvolvimentista e o atual, marcado pela fragmentação política e desintegração econômica. Cada ciclo teve suas peculiaridades, mas a região enfrenta agora uma crise de integração exacerbada pela pandemia de Covid-19. A baixa interdependência econômica e as crescentes polarizações políticas tornam a região mais vulnerável a interferências externas, enquanto a governança regional se mostra ineficaz para lidar com os desafios emergentes. O texto propõe reflexões sobre os desafios da integração regional e possíveis soluções para as contradições existentes.

Analyzes the cycles of regional integration in South America, highlighting four distinct periods: the national-developmentalist, the open regionalism, the social-developmentalist, and the current one marked by political fragmentation and economic disintegration. Each cycle had its peculiarities, but the region now faces a crisis of integration exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Low economic interdependence and growing political polarizations make the region more vulnerable to external interference, while regional governance proves ineffective in addressing emerging challenges. The text proposes reflections on the challenges of regional integration and possible solutions to existing contradictions.
