Abstract
O artigo investiga os determinantes aproximados do nível coletivo de bem-estar social na América Latina e identifica os principais fatores que geram menores níveis de bem-estar na região, em comparação com economias industriais, assim como os fatores que provocam variações inter-regionais de bem-estar. A partir da análise dos fatores considerados mais relevantes, demonstra que tal nível é uma função crescente do índice médio de renda per capita e uma função inversa do grau de desigualdade de renda. Como o relacionamento entre o nível de bem-estar e o grau de correlação entre os diferentes fatores é intrinsecamente complexo, busca-se indicações preliminares da relativa importância dos fatores, apresentando certas equações baseadas em parâmetros disponíveis. São analisadas também certas implicações políticas, visando a melhoria do nível em questão.

The paper investigates the determinants of collective approximate level of welfare in Latin America and identifies the main factors that generate lower levels of well-being in the region, compared to industrial economies, as well as the factors that cause inter-regional variations welfare. From the analysis of the factors considered most relevant, it shows that this level is an increasing function of the average rate of per capita income and an inverse function of the degree of income inequality. As the relationship between the welfare level and the degree of correlation between the different factors is inherently complex, preliminary indications is sought the relative importance of the factors, with certain equations based on available parameters. They are also analyzed certain political, aimed at improving the level in question.
