Evaluation of the Coverage and Benefit Incidences of Food Fortification in Mozambique

Abstract

"The main objective of this study is to evaluate the coverage of the National Food Fortification Programme (NFFP) in Mozambique regarding iron-fortified wheat and maize flours and vitamin A-fortified sugar and vegetable oil, as well as the benefit reach across population groups. A population-based cross-sectional household survey and laboratory tests to determine nutrient intake in food samples collected at households are the main source for the analysis". (...)

"O principal objectivo deste estudo é avaliar a cobertura do Programa Nacional de Fortificação de Alimentos (PNFA) em Moçambique relativamente à farinha de trigo e de milho fortificadas com ferro, e açúcar e óleo vegetal fortificados com vitamina A, bem como sobre o alcance dos benefícios do programa sobre a população. Constituem principal fonte de análise, um inquérito domiciliar transversal de base populacional e testes laboratoriais realizados para determinar o nível de consumo de nutrientes, em amostras de alimentos colhidos nas famílias".
