This paper focuses on the three main approaches of the informal sector in terms of the implicit conceptions of the State and of the implications of its actions on the informal sector. The study points out the features of each of the three theoretical approaches – the keynesian, the neoliberal and, at least, the structural approach – trying to work out an historical and conceptual analysis frame.

O texto focaliza as três principais abordagens sobre o setor informal no que tange à concepção implícita do papel do Estado e das implicações de suas ações sobre o informal. Destaca as características de cada uma das vertentes teóricas analisadas – a keynesiana, a neoliberal e, finalmente, a vertente estruturalista –, buscando contextualizá- las histórica e conceitualmente.
