Abstract: In their IPC Policy Research Brief #4, John Weeks and Terry McKinley propose major departures from the prevailing neoliberal macroeconomic framework that has dominated policymaking in sub-Saharan Africa. The neoliberal model favours fiscal policy that is preoccupied with maintaining small deficits, monetary policy that is fixated on low inflation targets and exchange-rate policy that is committed to full flexibility.
