Abstract: "Social cash transfer programmes are important and promising initiatives in the promotion of sustainable development and inclusive growth in the developing world. However, many of these programmes are operating at a small scale, reaching only a limited number of beneficiaries. Strategies to expand, adapt and sustain successful pilot or small-scale programmes are thus necessary in the continuous process of poverty alleviation and development. This policy research brief provides an overview of the literature relating to the scale-up of cash transfer programmes and an examination of good practices and lessons learned from the process in three African countries: Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia".
