Abstract
O amadurecimento de São Tomé e Príncipe ocorre à luz de antagonismos raciais, falhas no plano econômico e social e instabilidade política. Considerando-se que no país a globalização está envolvida com as dinâmicas locais bastante particulares, persiste a necessidade de renovação e gestão adequada das instituições e dos respectivos desempenhos. O artigo tem por objetivo realizar resenha histórica da pós-Independência, tentando ainda delinear as várias possibilidades da evolução política no arquipélago.

The maturation of Sao Tome and Principe occurs in the light of racial antagonisms, gaps in the economic and social area and political instability. Whereas in the country the globalization is involved with the very particular local dynamics, there remains the need for renovation and appropriate management of the institutions and their respective performance. The paper aims to conduct a historical review of the post-independence, trying to delineate the various possibilities of political developments in the archipelago.
