Abstract
Este artigo analisa os determinantes da mobilidade sócio-ocupacional no mercado de trabalho metropolitano brasileiro, enfocando o efeito de condições cíclicas sobre os movimentos ascendente e descendente dos indivíduos. A análise é feita com base no status de incompatibilidade educacional dos indivíduos nas ocupações, verificado a partir da comparação entre a escolaridade observada dos indivíduos e a escolaridade requerida numa dada ocupação. A estratégia de identificação dos modelos baseou-se na construção deum pseudopainel no nível de coortes de nascimento, utilizando os dados da Pesquisa Mensal do Emprego (PME), do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), no período 2002-2008. A principal evidência obtida foi que a ascensão ocupacional dos sobre-educados apresenta um comportamento pró-cíclico em relação às flutuações na taxa de desemprego no mercado de trabalho metropolitano. Esse resultado contribui para o entendimento dos determinantes da mobilidade socioeconômica e da incompatibilidade educacional no país.

This article examines the determinants of socio–occupational mobility in Brazilian metropolitan labor market focusing on the effect of cyclical conditions on the upward and downward movements from the individual education–occupation mismatch status. This mismatch is defined from the comparison between the observed individual level of schooling and the required schooling of their occupations. The identification strategy of the models was based on the construction of a pseudo–panel at the birth–cohort level using data from the Monthly Employment Survey (PME–IBGE) over the 2002–2008 period. The main empirical evidence found is that the upward occupational mobility of the overeducated is pro–cyclical with the rate of unemployment in the Brazilian metropolitan labor market. This result contributes to the understanding of the determinants of both the socioeconomic mobility and educational mismatch in Brazil.
