Abstract
Este trabalho analisa os efeitos da situação macroeconômica brasileira, na década de 80, sobre o bem-estar social, particularmente no que se refere à pobreza e à indigência. Mais especificamente, investiga a evolução da pobreza e indigência no Brasil na década anterior, e tenta oferecer uma incipiente medida da soma de recursos a serem comprometidos na erradicação da pobreza urbana brasileira.

This paper analyzes the effects of Brazil's macroeconomic situation in the 80s on the social well-being, particularly in relation to poverty and destitution. More specifically, investigates the evolution of poverty and indigence in Brazil a decade earlier, and tries to offer an incipient measure of amount of resources to be committed to eradication of the Brazilian urban poverty.
