Abstract
O texto examina as atividades dos serviços secretos brasileiros no contexto da política de abertura que conduziu o Brasil do estado burocrático-militar à democracia. Tenta, inicialmente, analisar até que ponto a extinção do Serviço Nacional de Informações (SNI) significou o fim do conceito de serviços de informações dominantes durante o período autoritário. Analisa, ainda, os fatos relacionados às novas estruturas de informações criadas no governo Collor, à luz da evolução das metas do governo voltadas ao atual desenvolvimento democrático.

This essay examines the activities of the Brazilian secret services within the context of the political “Abertura” (Awakening) that led Brazil from a bureaucratic-military state to a democracy. Firstly, it attempts to weight the extent to which the extinction of the “Serviço Nacional de Informações – SNI” (National Intelligence Service), the feared central organ, the “big brother” of the Brazilian military State – has indeed signified the end of the intelligence concept that was dominant during the authoritarian period. Secondly, this paper looks at the facts to the new intelligence structures created by Collor’s government – in the light of the evolution of the aims of government in sympathy with contemporary democratic development.
