Abstract
Esta Nota Técnica apresenta um histórico sumarizado da metodologia desenvolvida e empregada pelo IPEA e instituições parceiras para a delimitação de Unidades de Desenvolvimento Humano (UDHs), em 2014. As UDHs representam a base espacial para análise intramunicipal do Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano Municipal (IDHM) e do Índice de Vulnerabilidade Social (IVS). Elas são utilizadas para o recorte e análise de dados censitários (bases dos censos 2000 e 2010) que compõem o IVS e que a partir de aperfeiçoamentos tecnológicos e metodológicos serão revisadas e atualizadas para o Censo 2022, adequando-as quando necessário as dinâmicas do desenvolvimento e crescimento nacional, pretendendo-se ainda a expansão de sua cobertura para todos os municípios com mais de 100 mil habitantes, totalizando 593 municípios que representam 56,9% da população brasileira.

This note provides a concise overview of the methodology developed and applied by IPEA and partner institutions for the delineation of Human Development Units (UDHs) in 2014. The UDHs serve as the spatial basis for sub-municipal analyses of the Municipal Human Development Index (IDHM) and the Social Vulnerability Index (IVS). They are used to extract and analyze census data from the 2000 and 2010 census databases that underpin the IVS, and will be revised and updated for the 2022 Census through technological and methodological enhancements. The revision aims to adjust the UDHs, when necessary, to reflect national development and growth dynamics, as well as to expand their coverage to all municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, totaling 593 municipalities (representing 56.9% of the Brazilian population).
