O texto examina os investimentos estrangeiros no Brasil sob uma perspectiva histórica. Apresenta informações sobre a política governamental através do capital estrangeiro. Analisa o processo de transferência de tecnologia durante 1960 e apresenta algumas evidências nas características deste processo durante 1970. Examina também o joint venture estabelecido durante o ano de 1970 com a participação do estado.

This paper examines foreign investment in Brazil in historical perspective, presenting background information and discussing the general government policies towards foreign capital. Analyses the technology transfer process during the 1960s and present some evidence on the characteristics of this process during the 1970s. Examines the joint ventures established during the 1970s with the participation of state, as well as the contracting of overseas credits by foreign subsidiaries in Brazil. Presents some concluding remarks on the role played by the “new forms” of foreign investment in the strategy of the multinational corporations.
