Abstract

This article aims at analyzing the transformations in Chinese distributive profile after the reforms. China’s social dimension, characterized by a rapid reduction of poverty and by a massive increase of inequalities (of income and those related to access to public goods), is observed in light of some elements of economic structure that the structuralist literature identifies as salient in determining personal and functional income distribution. Accordingly, this article deals with the development process of rural China (including terms of trade and agriculture prices), profile and evolution of sectoral heterogeneity, the radical transformations of urban labour market and migratory policies.
