Impacts of the Fomento Programme on family farmers in the Cerrado biome and its relevance to climate change: preliminary findings

Abstract

Over the last two decades, Brazil has been recognised for its social protection strategies aimed at reducing the vulnerability of populations to hunger and food insecurity. This One Pager presents the Programme for the Promotion of Rural Productive Activities (Programa de Fomento) which was established with the goals of stimulating job creation and income generation, promoting food and nutritional security, and encouraging the participation of beneficiaries (those living in conditions of poverty and extreme poverty) in social, educational, technical and vocational training, as well as promoting their participation in associations and cooperatives.

Nas últimas duas décadas, o Brasil vem ganhando reconhecimento pelas estratégias de proteção social destinadas à redução da vulnerabilidade das populações à fome e à insegurança alimentar. Este One Pager apresenta o Programa de Fomento às Atividades Produtivas Rurais — o Programa de Fomento — que foi estabelecido com os objetivos de estimular a geração de emprego e de renda, promover a segurança alimentar e nutricional (SAN) e dar impulso à participação dos beneficiários (em condições de pobreza e extrema pobreza) em formações sociais, educacionais, técnicas e profissionais, bem como promover a sua participação em associações e cooperativas.
