Abstract

This paper aims to assess the effects of different situations of violence experienced by students from the 9th grade of elementary school in Ceará on school delay. Therefore, microdata from the 2015 School Health Survey (PeNSE) were used, using the propensity score matching (PSM) method. The results showed an increase in the age-grade distortion for students who stopped going to class due to insecurity in the school environment or on the way to school, for those who practice bullying, students exposed to sexual violence and for those who have already been involved in fights with physical fight, firearm or bladed weapon. Contrary evidence was obtained for the effect of those who had already been bullied, showing negative effects of around 2% on school delay
